CAUSES OF INFERTILITY:
When we evaluate infertile couples we find that causes of infertility can be divided into disorders of Ovulation, tubal problems, Male factor, endometriosis, anmd unexplained. Unexplained infertility : 28% it is realistic to start the investigation of an infertile couple after 18 months of regular sexual intercourse if this fails to achieve a pregnancy. The couple should preferably be interviewed together, although detailed questions regarding sexual practices and past sexual or venereal problems are best obtained by individual interviews.
It is our practice to start evaluating the 4 main factors responsible for infertility in the vast majority of infertile couples: the ovarian, male, tubal and cervical factors. If these prove to be normal, the other less common factors should next be considered: the uterine factor and the peritoneal factor. Even after an exhaustive search, a number of couples will remain infertile without a definite explanation, i.e. unexplained infertility . For those couples, as well as for couples with irreparable tubal damage, assisted conception (In-Vitro Fertilization) is resorted to.
An initial consultation is followed by Ultrasound evaluation, Sonohysteroraphy, Hormone Evaluation, Hysterosalpingography, as well as a semen analysis. Laparoscopic evaluation is considered in cases where endometriosis or pelvic adhesions are suspected,
